In 1911, Frank C. Mars made the first Mars candies in his Tacoma, Washington kitchen and established Mars’ first roots as a confectionery company. In the 1920s, Forrest E. Mars, Sr. joined his father in business and together they launched the MILKY WAY® bar. In 1932, Forrest, Sr. moved to the United Kingdom with a dream of building a business based on the objective of a “mutuality of benefits” for all stakeholders – this vision serves as the foundation of the Mars, Incorporated we are today.
Mars began operating in Mexico in 1991. We established our first factory in the Municipality of El Marqués, Querétaro, in 1995, which has become one of the largest and most efficient Mars plants worldwide. In 2001, we acquired the LUCAS® brand, expanding our confectionery portfolio and taking over its Monterrey production site.
Along with our Querétaro and Monterrey plants, we now have dry and wet pet food factories in Poncitlán in Jalisco province and a chocolate factory in Montemorelos in Nuevo León.
Mars Mexico is comprised of three business segments that lead their respective markets: Chocolate, Petcare and Wrigley.
